Onental the Smuggler

I've liked quite a few of the sculpts from the Rackham range of Daikinee elves since they came out - quite a few of them have a really nice sense of movement to them - and this one is one of my favourites. I also quite liked the little bit of background given to the character, as a bandit who mended his ways to protect the forest. This gave the idea for the colour scheme and base - I wanted to use earthy colours, and try to make the base look like part of a forest under threat of being chopped down...

For the colours, I tried out some of GW's foundation paints for the base colours, as well as various mixtures of the standard range of GW paints. For example, I used Knarloc Green for the base of the robe, then shaded it with mixtures of Vallejo Smoke, Catachan Green and black, then added the highlights with mixtures of Catachan Green and gradually more and more Bleached Bone. The brown-green armour was done with Charadon Granite as a base over black, which was then highlighted with mixtures of Graveyard Earth and Bleached Bone. The lighter strips of cloth were done with Dheneb Stone as a base, shaded with mixtures of Smoke, green and black, then highlighted with Bleached Bone and white. The brown leather parts were painted with Scorched Brown over a black base, and then highlighted by gradually adding Fortress Grey to Scorched Brown.

The base was done by sculpting the tree stumps and rock with MagicSculp putty, after which I glued on some sand, grass and moss here and there. All in all, I'm quite happy with how this one turned out, and I think I managed to achieve the look I was after pretty well.
